Everything You Should Know About Rock Pools

By Jason Long

The oceans are very fascinating water forms, but are very mysterious at the same time. It is said that less than five percent of it has been explored and the remaining ninety five percent, well no one knows anything about that yet. This is why anything that is discovered in relation to the deep is treated with utmost care as well as with high regard due to the fact that it is not an easy area to explore.

Tidal rise and fall of sea levels is a natural phenomenon that is caused by the gravitational pull of the moon and the sun, combined with the rotation of the earth. A common misconception held by many people is that when the tide recedes, not a trace of water can be found in the shallow areas but this is wrong. If one is curious enough, one will discover rock pools or water that is enclosed in rock formations and is home to many organisms like plants and animals that need water to live.

Depending on the type of rock, the communities that are established in these pools are will vary from one another. However, most that are found in them or those tiny creatures that will easily be carried by strong waves which is why they shelter in them. Naturally, high tides cause these formations to be filled with water and some who shelter in them often leave the rocks to find food.

There are many advantages that it brings to these smaller animals such as refuge from larger predators. But there are also several benefits that it brings to humans in terms of conservation as well as exploration. There are then many things that an individual should bear in mind when it comes to these pools.

Many people think that if they want to find fishes and other organisms, they have to turn every rock there is but that is just wrong. These creatures would only reveal themselves in calm waters so if you want to really witness them, you need to stand quiet and wait. After some time, you will see fishes and other things scurrying in the pool.

The rocks also serve as their homes and shields so you may not want so much as touch them because you may disturb the creatures that are living there. If you ever make the mistake of moving them or whatnot, make sure that you turn them back to the way they were in the same spot and in the same manner. Be careful in doing this though because there may be tiny organism that can be harmed if you carelessly move them around.

However, not only do you need to care for them but for yourself also. The rocks can be slippery so take careful steps so as not to injure yourself as well as other animals. Seaweed or coral formations can be easily destroyed so watch out for them as well.

Many humans also think that because, technically, nobody owns them so they can pick whichever they like and bring it home. But no can do because this is definitely illegal. If you wish to do so, however, make sure you seek a permit that will allow you to remove any of them.

These things are actually very sensitive and easily destroyed. For this reason, great deals of individuals are encouraging people to do their part in protecting and conserving them. Even when they are small, they are still part of system which needs them for the community to persist.
